Iron Sets
Choosing new golf iron sets is no easy task with the variety of designs, materials, aesthetics and prices available.
Aspects such as clubhead design, composition and shaft flex are all important in matching a golf iron set to your game.
Golf iron sets usually contains 7-8 clubs. The size of the iron is indicated either on
the club head or on the handle. The clubs are numbered relevant to the length of the handle. A good caddy will recommend
the best iron to use for a particular
shot. Most iron sets skip the one and two irons and start at the
number three with the number one and two sold separately. The numbers one and two golf irons have such narrow
club heads and long shafts that is difficult for most recreational users to use them.
Golf irons are generally made in two different ways, cavity heads and blade style. The cavity head is favored by those
that need a little extra punch on the course and the blade style is favored by the Pros. The cavity head is more
effective at reaching longer distances.
Each club's design determines how much length a ball will go when hit by the club. Irons fall into one of three
categories; short irons, mid irons and long irons. For the novice the best club to use is the short iron.
Purchasing golf iron sets can get expensive when you get into the designer series though some avid
golfers swear by the more expensive models. A good rule of thumb for the novice is to purchase only what you can afford
and leave the extremes alone for now. Order your golf iron sets from our
golf shop at the Golf Place.
